MUSTANG AERA
Meaning Mun Tang “flat fertile”, Mustang or Kingdom of Lo is an area located at the North-East of the Nepal, of which the territory corresponds to the district of the same name, and which was a long time interdict of access the abroads. Today, the Nepalese authorities on which this area depends lets enter the visitors to the dropper. Formerly independent, although very near to Tibet by the language and the culture, it forms integral part of the Nepalese territory since 1951. The capital of the kingdom is the village of Lo Mantang (the chief town of the administrative district of Mustang is located in Jomsom). Its râja (king) Jigme Dorje Tandrul, carries the title Tibetan of Lo Rgyal-p", it occupies now only one honorary position.

Culturally comparable with Dolpo, these easier excursion (alt. max. 4100m), which has just been open to the visitors finally makes it possible all truly to return in the mythical universe of the traditions still alive Tibetans on this side of the border. We go up full North the valley of Mustang, sees direct between Tibet and Nepal, on the road of salt. Many a chörtens, caves, statues and monasteries (XIème century at our days) border the ways which lead us to Lo Mantang. We visit this village fortress and the palate of the king, symbols of this kingdom in the kingdom. With the descent, the landscape is incomparable vis-a-vis the solid mass of Dhaulagiri on the right and with the barrier formed by Nilgiri and Tilicho Peak (7134m) on the left. Key periods: monasteries of Mustang, the splendid village of Tangye, Lo Mantang, two days last in the north of this fortress, days when the beauty of the sites has equal only sight on Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, assured emotion.

OF THE MUSTANG
It is the circuit more traversed in Nepal for a long time and it is not fortuitous. Thanks to the flight on Jomsom(2713m) with the doors of Mustang, this short and easy excursion gathers all diversities of the 3 weeks routes. Each day is crowned of a “key period”; we start by villages and monasteries typically Tibetans of high Mustang in desert landscapes and it is then of Muktinath (3800m) that we have an overall picture on the valleys ochres and green of Mustang with in backdrop solid masses of Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Nilgiri (7061m). We go down from Muktinath, place crowned of the Hindus and the Buddhists by crossing pilgrims of all horizons. The valley of Kali-Gandaki, between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I, inhabited by the Thakali ethnos group (commercial of salt) leads us until Poonhill before going down again by the forests and the terraces of the Gurung country until Pokhara, vis-a-vis southern Annapurna (7219m) and in Machapuchare. Key periods: daily contrasts, monasteries, sights brought closer on the solid mass to Dhaulagiri (Tukuche 6920 m) and to Annapurna (Machapuchare…), the panorama of Poonhill, the immense Gurung village of Gandrunk.
