Nested
in the Eastern Himalayas, Sikkim is equipped with an exceptional
botanical richness and constitutes one the tops lieus world of
the biodiversity.
During the local summer, especially with high-altitude, the
whole forest ignited by the varied colours of the rhododendrons
constitutes one of the sights more époustouflantes to which you
can assist.
In Sikkim, one on the whole finds 36 varieties with 45 forms
different by including the subspecies and varieties being spread
out since tiny growths from a few centimetres forming like a
carpet in the alpine area (R. pumilum, R. setosum)
to the giant R. arboretum of 25 meters.
The
track of the rhododendrons is designed to enable you to discover
the floral rainbow while travelling comfortably by car.
Recommended preferably during the local summer (April - June),
this excursion takes you along on the extents overhanging the
lake Tsomgo & the areas north of covering Sikkim Lachung,
Yumthang, Lachen & Thanggu. These areas are staged from 2500 to
4250 meters of altitude and include/understand reserves like the
alpine sanctuary of Kyongnosla close to Gangtok and the
sanctuary of the Rhododendrons of Shingba close to Lachung, the
only place where one finds R. niveum the emblem of
Sikkim.
